The overall aim of the programme is to enable participants develop the necessary knowledge, skills and confidence to undertake training activities. These include the development of planning, delivery and evaluation skills in the area of training and development. This course is suitable for individuals who have an interest in training and development and may wish to pursue it as a career. Technical trainers and trainers with considerable involvement in operator training. Supervisors who are interested in acquiring a knowledge and understanding of systematic training. Individuals who have already taken up a position in training function at training level. The programme content has been broken down into three integrated modules. The course is highly participative and practical in nature. A range of learning methods will be used which are designed to combine sufficient theory and practice.

SUMMARY CONTENT
Module 1 - Systematic Training - organisation structure, culture and behaviour, training policies and plans, training department organisation and the role of the training officer and other training specialists. Role and tasks analysis, motivation and its relevance to training, why and how people learn, writing learning objectives, presenting training proposals.
Module 2 - Interpersonal Skills - communications skills, written and spoken, assertiveness, coaching and counselling skills.
Delivering Training - demonstration and instruction, making presentations, using group discussions and case study approaches, producing visual aids and equipment, producing training materials
Module 3 - Training Strategies and Training Administration - Training strategies and tactics, internal and external delivery, interactive video and computer-based training, open/distance learning, on the job training, producing training budgets, producing training costings, collecting and maintaining training records.
